Where visitors stay in Mumbai

Mumbai runs north to south along a narrow peninsula and the drive from one end to the other can take two hours. South Mumbai, Colaba and Fort, holds the heritage sights and the grand hotels; Bandra is the leafy suburb with the cafes, the sea face and the film-industry crowd; Juhu has the beach and the big hotels on it; Andheri and the Bandra-Kurla Complex hold the business hotels near the airport; Powai is the lakeside corporate district.

Good to know

Pick by what you will do most
The airport is in the north, the sights are in the south, and the two are 90 minutes apart in traffic. Do not try to split the difference.
The monsoon changes everything
June to September brings flooding and delays. If the dates are flexible, November to February is dry and comfortable.
