Where visitors stay in Rome
Rome's sights are within a long walk of each other, so the hotel choice is about the walk home at night. The Centro Storico around the Pantheon and Piazza Navona is the beautiful, expensive middle; Monti is the small neighborhood between the Colosseum and Termini; Trastevere is the lively quarter across the river; Prati is the orderly grid by the Vatican; and the streets around Termini station have the budget hotels and the trains.

Good to know
- Rome charges a city tax per night
- Paid at the hotel, per person per night, on top of the rate. The listing says how much.
- August is hot and half-closed
- Many family restaurants close for the holiday and the heat is heavy. Spring and October are the comfortable months; hotels are cheaper in November to February.

Questions before you book
Where should I stay for a first visit?
The Centro Storico if the budget allows, Monti if it does not. Both put the Colosseum, the Pantheon and the Trevi within a walk.
Is it worth staying near the Vatican?
Prati is a good base in its own right: calm, well connected and ideal for an early Vatican slot. It is a Metro ride to the ancient sites.
How do I book a hotel from this page?
Each "See hotels" button opens Expedia's hotel search for that part of Rome, with live rates, photos, reviews and the cancellation terms. You book and pay there. All Travel Fun earns a commission on bookings made through those links; it does not change what you pay.
Can your agents book the hotel over the phone?
Our agents book flights. Call to price the flight to Rome; book the room on Expedia once your dates are fixed.
