What to do in Cancun
Cancun is the busiest gateway in Mexico for a reason: the beach is at the hotel, and the Yucatan is at the door. Chichen Itza, Tulum, the cenotes and Isla Mujeres are each a day, with hotel pickup. Most tours collect from the Hotel Zone and from downtown; Playa del Carmen and Tulum hotels are usually served too, with an earlier start.
01
Chichen Itza, a cenote and Valladolid
The classic long day: about three hours each way, the pyramid and ball court with a guide, a swim in a cenote and a stop in the colonial town of Valladolid.
02
Isla Mujeres by catamaran
Sail across the bay, snorkel the reef off the island and spend the afternoon on Playa Norte. Most sailings include lunch and the return by boat.
03
Tulum ruins and cenote swim
The only Mayan city built on the coast, on a cliff above the Caribbean. About two hours south; usually paired with a cenote or with Coba.
04
Cenote day: Dos Ojos, Suytun and more
Freshwater sinkholes in the jungle, some open-air, some caves you swim into. Go with a group that brings life jackets and knows which ones are quiet in the morning.
05
Whale sharks and Cozumel reef
Whale sharks gather off Isla Mujeres roughly June to September; the rest of the year the reef off Cozumel is the big snorkel and dive day.

Why book through Viator
Book the Cancun tours before you fly, without locking yourself in.
Viator lists tours and excursions from local operators in Cancun with live availability, verified reviews and 24/7 support. We send you there because it is the simplest way to compare, and it earns us a commission that does not change your price.
- Free cancellation on most experiences
- Cancel up to 24 hours before the start on most listings for a full refund. Plans change; the booking can.
- Reserve now, pay later
- Many experiences let you hold a spot now and pay closer to the date, so you can lock in the popular day without paying before the flight is booked.
- Reviews from people who went
- Ratings and reviews come from travelers who booked that exact tour. Read the recent ones before you choose.
- Compare before you land
- The hotel tour desk sells what it has left that morning. Booking ahead means you pick the operator, the time and the pickup, with the price in front of you.
Cancellation and payment terms are set per listing and shown on Viator before you book. Check them for the tour you pick.
Good to know
- Say where you are staying when you book
- Pickup times differ by zone. The Hotel Zone is collected last on trips west, first on trips south; Tulum and Playa hotels add an hour each way.
- Pesos help, dollars work
- Entry fees, tips and small purchases are easier in pesos. Most tour prices on Viator are in US dollars and include the main entries; the listing says what is not.
