What to do in Los Cabos
Los Cabos is two towns and the 20-mile corridor of resorts between them at the tip of Baja California. Cabo San Lucas has the marina, the arch and the nightlife; San Jose del Cabo has the art district and the quieter evenings. The sea is the main event: boats to the arch, whale watching from December to April, sportfishing year-round and snorkeling at the protected bays up the coast. The desert fills the rest with ATVs and camels. Pickups cover both towns and the corridor.
01
The Arch and Lover's Beach by boat
A glass-bottom boat or a small cruise out to El Arco at Land's End, the sea lion colony and a drop-off at Lover's Beach, where the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez meet. Forty minutes to half a day.
02
Whale watching, December to April
Humpbacks and greys calve in the bay each winter and breach within sight of the resorts. Small boats get closest; sunset sails are the gentle version. Some operators guarantee a sighting in season.
03
Snorkeling at Chileno Bay and Santa Maria
The two protected coves on the corridor with the clearest water and the most fish, reached by boat or by road. Cabo Pulmo, two hours north, is the real reef for a full day.
04
Sportfishing
Marlin, dorado and tuna from the marina that calls itself the marlin capital. Shared charters for a half day; private boats for the day. The marina restaurants cook your catch.
05
Sunset sail with dinner
A catamaran past the arch as the sun goes down behind it, with drinks and food on board. The thing couples book first.
06
ATVs and camels in the desert
Dune and desert trails above the Pacific beaches, or a camel ride along the sand with a tequila tasting after. Mornings before the heat.

Good to know
- Most beaches are not for swimming
- The Pacific side and much of the corridor have strong currents and no lifeguards. Medano Beach in Cabo San Lucas, Chileno, Santa Maria and Palmilla are the swimmable ones; the resort will tell you which flag it flies.
- Whale season sets the calendar
- December to April is whale season and the high season together. Book the boats before you fly in those months; the rest of the year is hotter, cheaper and quieter.
Before you go
Both towns, the corridor and the beaches you can actually swim at.
Questions before you book
Which town should I base myself in for tours?
Either. Boats leave from the Cabo San Lucas marina; tours collect from San Jose and the corridor with 20 to 40 minutes added. Stay where you want to spend the evenings.
Is Cabo Pulmo worth the drive?
For snorkelers and divers, yes: a protected coral reef with big schools of fish, about two hours by road. It is a full day and the water is best from June to November.
How do I book these tours?
Each "See tours" button opens Viator's listings for that experience in Los Cabos, with live prices, dates, reviews and the cancellation terms. You book and pay there. All Travel Fun earns a commission on bookings made through those links; it does not change what you pay.
