Things to do in Delhi

Delhi, planned before you land.

The Taj Mahal is a day trip, Old Delhi is a morning by rickshaw, and a guide is the difference between seeing it and surviving it.

What to do in Delhi

Delhi is two cities: the Mughal lanes of Old Delhi and the broad avenues of New Delhi, with the tombs and the Qutub Minar scattered between them. Agra and the Taj Mahal are three to four hours away by expressway or two by express train, and most visitors do it as a long day. Most callers are visiting family and want the Taj day and one good day in the city; both are easy to book with pickup.

  1. 01

Taj Mahal and Agra in a day

Sunrise or morning at the Taj, then Agra Fort and the Baby Taj, by car on the expressway or by the Gatimaan Express train. Twelve to fourteen hours. Closed Fridays.

  2. 02

Old Delhi by rickshaw, with the food

Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk, the spice market and the parathas and jalebis of the lanes, by cycle rickshaw and on foot. Mornings before the heat and the crowds.

  3. 03

Humayun's Tomb, Qutub Minar and the Red Fort

The three big monuments with a guide in one day, usually with Lotus Temple or India Gate added. A car and driver make the distances easy.

  4. 04

The Golden Triangle in three days

Delhi, Agra and Jaipur by car with hotels, for the trip most first-time visitors to north India take. Private or small group.

  5. 05

Cooking class in a Delhi home

Learn three or four dishes and eat them with the family. The evening most visitors say was their favorite.
