What to do in Casablanca

Casablanca is where the flights land and the trains leave from. The Hassan II Mosque on the ocean is the sight; the old medina and the Art Deco downtown are a morning. Rabat is an hour by train, Marrakech about two and a half, and Tangier two by the high-speed line. Guides meet at the hotel or the mosque; day trips go by train or private car.

  1. 01

    Hassan II Mosque guided visit

One of the few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslims, built over the Atlantic with a minaret you can see from everywhere. Guided visits only, outside prayer times.

  2. 02

Casablanca city tour: medina, Habous and the Corniche

The old medina, the French-built Habous quarter, the Art Deco center and the seafront. Half day, by car with stops.

  3. 03

    Rabat day trip

The capital's Kasbah of the Udayas, the Hassan Tower and the royal mausoleum, an hour away by train or car. Calmer than Casablanca and prettier.

  4. 04

    Marrakech in a day

The Jemaa el-Fna square, the souks and the Bahia Palace, about two and a half hours each way by train. A long day; two nights is the real visit.

  5. 05

Moroccan food tour or cooking class

Tagine, pastilla and mint tea in the medina stalls, or a class that starts in the market. Evenings.

  6. 06

El Jadida and the Portuguese cistern

A fortified Portuguese town on the coast an hour south with a 16th-century cistern lit from above. Half day, quiet.

Good to know

The train is the way out
Al Boraq, the high-speed line, reaches Tangier in about two hours and Rabat in under one. Marrakech is the regular line, about two and a half hours. Book first class for the space.
Mosque hours move with prayers
Visits run several times a day between prayers and not during Friday midday prayer. A tour handles the timing.

Questions before you book

Is Casablanca worth more than a day?

One full day covers the mosque, the medina and the seafront. Most visitors use it as the gateway and give the extra days to Marrakech, Fes or the coast.

Can I do Marrakech as a day trip?

Yes, by the early train and the evening return, with about six hours in the city. It is enough for the square and the souks, not for the palaces and the gardens.

How do I book these tours?

Each "See tours" button opens Viator's listings for that experience in Casablanca, with live prices, dates, reviews and the cancellation terms. You book and pay there. All Travel Fun earns a commission on bookings made through those links; it does not change what you pay.

Can your agents book tours over the phone?
