What to do in Montreal
Montreal is the closest thing to Europe on this side of the Atlantic: cobbled Old Montreal, a basilica, bagels and smoked meat, and French on every sign. Mount Royal is the park and the viewpoint. Quebec City is three hours by train or road and makes a long day or, better, an overnight. Tours leave from Old Montreal and the downtown hotels.
01
Old Montreal and Notre-Dame Basilica
The port, the squares and the basilica's blue and gold interior. The evening light show inside the basilica needs a separate timed ticket.
02
Food tour: bagels, smoked meat and poutine
Mile End bagels from a wood oven, smoked meat on the Main, Jean-Talon Market and a poutine. Guides keep the portions survivable.
03
Mount Royal and the city viewpoint
Walk or e-bike up the park Olmsted designed to the lookout over downtown, with the cross and the Sunday tam-tams on the slope in summer.
04
Quebec City day trip
The walled old town, the Chateau Frontenac boardwalk and Montmorency Falls, about three hours each way. A 12 to 13 hour day.
05
Botanical Garden, Biodome and the Olympic Park
One of the largest botanical gardens anywhere, an indoor ecosystem museum and the tower you can ride to the top of. Indoor options for winter.

- Greet in French and the rest can be in English almost everywhere in the visitor areas. Menus and signs are French; guides translate.

Questions before you book
Is Quebec City worth a day trip?
It is a long day, six hours on the road for five in the city. If you can, stay one night; the old town after the day visitors leave is the point.
What about winter?
Montreal works in winter: the underground city links downtown, the basilica and museums are indoors, and the snow festivals are the reason some people come.
How do I book these tours?
Each "See tours" button opens Viator's listings for that experience in Montreal, with live prices, dates, reviews and the cancellation terms. You book and pay there. All Travel Fun earns a commission on bookings made through those links; it does not change what you pay.
Can your agents book tours over the phone?
Our agents book flights. Call to price the flight to Montreal; book the tours on Viator once your dates are fixed.
