What to do in Punta Cana
Punta Cana is all-inclusive country, and the resorts are good at keeping you in. The reasons to leave are real: Saona Island is the postcard beach, Scape Park has a cenote you can swim in, and Santo Domingo, the oldest European city in the Americas, is about two and a half hours west. Every tour collects from the resort lobbies along the coast.
01
Saona Island catamaran
Drive to Bayahibe, then boat or catamaran to the island's beaches and the natural pool where starfish gather. Lunch on the sand; back by late afternoon.
02
Scape Park and the Hoyo Azul cenote
A blue freshwater cenote at the foot of a cliff, zip lines, caves and a beach, all in one park near Cap Cana. Half or full day.
03
Dune buggies through the countryside
Mud, sugarcane roads, a cenote stop and a village. You will need a change of clothes. Shared or two-seater buggies.
04
Catalina Island snorkel and dive
A reef wall with clear water, quieter than Saona. Snorkel from the boat or a two-tank dive for certified divers.
05
Santo Domingo for a day
The colonial zone, the first cathedral in the Americas and the Tres Ojos caves. A long day from the resorts, worth it if you like history.
06
Humpback whales in Samana
From roughly mid-January to March the whales calve in Samana Bay. A long day by road, or a short flight; the sightings are close.

Book the Punta Cana tours before you fly, without locking yourself in.
Viator lists tours and excursions from local operators in Punta Cana with live availability, verified reviews and 24/7 support. We send you there because it is the simplest way to compare, and it earns us a commission that does not change your price.
- Free cancellation on most experiences
- Cancel up to 24 hours before the start on most listings for a full refund. Plans change; the booking can.
- Reserve now, pay later
- Many experiences let you hold a spot now and pay closer to the date, so you can lock in the popular day without paying before the flight is booked.
- Reviews from people who went
- Ratings and reviews come from travelers who booked that exact tour. Read the recent ones before you choose.
- Compare before you land
- The hotel tour desk sells what it has left that morning. Booking ahead means you pick the operator, the time and the pickup, with the price in front of you.
Cancellation and payment terms are set per listing and shown on Viator before you book. Check them for the tour you pick.
Good to know
- Lobby pickups are early
- Saona and Santo Domingo tours collect around 7am and the resort strip is long, so your pickup may be the first or the last. Bring a towel from the room.
- US dollars are fine
- Vendors on Saona and at the parks take dollars. Tips for the crew and the driver are expected and are easier in small bills.

Questions before you book
How far is Saona Island?
About 90 minutes by road to Bayahibe, then 45 minutes to an hour by catamaran or 20 minutes by speedboat. The whole day runs nine to ten hours.

Yes. The island, the cenote parks, buggies, the capital and the whales in season are all day trips with hotel pickup, and most are easy to book a few days ahead.
How do I book these tours?
Each "See tours" button opens Viator's listings for that experience in Punta Cana, with live prices, dates, reviews and the cancellation terms. You book and pay there. All Travel Fun earns a commission on bookings made through those links; it does not change what you pay.
Can your agents book tours over the phone?
