Which zone?
Punta Cana is the easiest all-inclusive destination from the eastern US and Canada: the airport sits among the resorts and most transfers are under 30 minutes. Bavaro is the long central beach with the most resorts and the shops outside the gates; Cap Cana is the gated upscale zone south of the airport; Uvero Alto is the quiet far north with the adults-only resorts; and Cabeza de Toro is the small protected bay nearest arrivals. Almost every resort on the coast is all-inclusive.
01
Bavaro
The main strip: the widest choice of family and adults-only resorts on a calm, reef-protected beach, with plazas and restaurants a walk outside the gates.
Suits: First visits, families, the most choice
Transfer: about 20 to 30 minutes
02
Cap Cana
A gated community south of the airport with the high-end resorts, Juanillo beach, the marina and the golf course. Nothing to walk to outside, by design.
Suits: Luxury, golf, honeymoons
Transfer: about 15 minutes
03
Uvero Alto
The far north: newer resorts, many adults-only, on a wilder beach with real surf. The quietest zone and the longest transfer.
Suits: Couples, adults-only, quiet
Transfer: about 45 to 60 minutes
04
Cabeza de Toro
A handful of resorts on a protected bay nearest the airport, with the calmest water on the coast.
Suits: Short trips, calm water, young children
Transfer: about 15 minutes

What all-inclusive means here
- What the package covers
- Room, all meals, drinks including local spirits and beer, pools, non-motorized water sports, the kids' clubs and the shows. Many resorts include the airport transfer; the listing says.
- What it does not
- Spa, motorized sports, premium imported spirits at some resorts, excursions, and the Dominican tourist card or e-ticket you complete online before arrival.
- Adults-only is strict
- Many Uvero Alto and Cap Cana resorts admit no one under 18, and some family resorts have adults-only sections. Check the age policy before booking a family trip.
When to go
- December to April
- Dry season and peak prices, especially Christmas week, Presidents' Day and spring break. The water is calmest.
- May to August
- Warmer, more humid, with short afternoon showers and lower rates. Good value for families in June and July.
- September to November
- The rainy and hurricane season, with the lowest rates. Most storms miss; some do not. November is usually fine and quiet.
Questions before you book
Which zone is best for families?
Bavaro, for the calm beach, the family resorts and the things to do outside the gate. Cabeza de Toro for very young children and a short transfer.
Does the flight come with the package?
Not through these links. The resort is booked on Expedia; the flight is separate. Call us to price the flight to Punta Cana, then book the resort once the dates are fixed.
Is it safe to leave the resort?
Yes, with tours that collect from the lobby. Saona Island, the cenote parks and the buggies are the usual days out; see the tours page.
How do I book a resort from this page?
Each "See resorts" button opens Expedia's hotel search for that zone, filtered to all-inclusive properties, with live rates, what is included, reviews and the cancellation terms. You book and pay there. All Travel Fun earns a commission on bookings made through those links; it does not change what you pay.
